performing, teaching and making dance
Julia is a contemporary choreographer, dancer and teacher based in the Netherlands. After her bachelor degree in dance at the ArtEZ Dance Academy (2012) she continued her development with a master in art in education and simultaneously entered the parttime study 'Choreological studies' at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London (2015).
Julia regards dance as an art form that is constantly in motion, just as the body is constantly evolving.
As a professional dancer Julia has worked with several independent choreographers as Libertad Pozo Rodriguez, Sanne van der Put and Jonne Covers. In 2016 she danced an extract of Phoenix by Noa Wertheim with Vertigo Dance Company in Israel. Thereafter she made the site-specific performance 'Matar a saudade' to reflect her experiences she has gained in Israel. Recently she works together with choreograper Fernanda Silva on a solo called "Out of my mind".
"I allow myself to be inspired by interpersonal, social and sociological issues and adress those with my personal handwriting in dance and movement. I aim to produce dance work with a defined theatric setting to evoke an emotional response in the audience, either consciously or/and subconsciously. Preferebly in a humoristic way with recognizable images to create a narrative with a thrilling and satirical character.
I see myself and the dance material as a "channel", a tool to discover the richness of movement in different ways. Students are challenged to understand the natural logic of movement. Once they have understood this logic, you can apply and transform it in your own way.
That is why the artistic search for individuality and growth is central to her dance.e practice.
Since several years Julia works as a contemporary dance teacher and choreographer at the following vocational dance programs:
- Vooropleiding ArtEZ Arnhem & Enschede
- RijnIjssel creative contemporary program
- Aventus modern dance program
Julia has recently started as a teacher for choreology at ArtEZ Dance Academy department Dance in Education.
Since januari 2018 Julia is part of the ECHO collective who has the mission to connect science and research with artistic manifestations, thus creating art with a rich conceptual base that goes beyond its existing contexts. This fascination has led to the latest project together with componist Stef Veldhuis:
Movement By Oceans.
