Movement By Oceans uses scientific data from the oceans measured by the so called ARGO-floats; measuring devices that collect data about the temperature and salinity of the oceans, as well as their underwater currents.
One of the floats flows through the Arctic Ocean and has measured more than 200 locations in this frozen sea. The Arctic Ocean is an interesting place regarding the topic of climate change. Every year more and more permanent sea ice is disappearing leading to global warming and rising sea levels all over the world.
With Movement By Oceans we want to grasp the awesome and serene power as well as the ongoing destruction of this supernatural landscape in a performance wherein dance and music are of equal importance, both derived from the data measured by the ARGO-floats. By conveying the beauty of the Arctic Ocean to a large audience we hope to address the importance of maintaining this landscape for the next generations.
Movement by Oceans is interested in the element of water and his characteristics, presented the first results during Festival de Oversteek.
